Connect! - book review - word-on-the-web

So what is it about?	World mission no longer consists of people from the west trekking to far-off places to convert "foreigners". Thanks to things like the internet, the media, and cheaper and more efficient travel, the world is increasingly becoming like a global village (also known as globalisation). Naturally, this has had a revolutionary effect on mission work and the character of the global church - and this book explores the issue of globalisation, as well as some of the implications for the church and the missionary-minded.
Who is it for?	People and churches who want to be more effective and relevant in the work of world mission.
Does it do what it says on the label?	Yes. Its strength is that it doesn't just look at the issue from a theoretical angle, it also gives practical suggestions on what can be done to "Connect!" with the rest of the world. There is also a helpful chapter on the postmodernism way of thinking.
Enjoy or endure?	Enjoy - as long as you enjoy being challenged! What is helpful is that this book is relatively short (160 pages), and not too heavy or academic with its language. There are also helpful illustrations, and many relevant quotes in boxes. It could be read in one sitting, maybe in preparation for a group discussion at church.
Any other comments?	The chapter on postmodernism alone is essential for anyone working in mission and evangelism who has heard this term but would appreciate a short, helpful chapter explaining what it means.
