The Disconnected Generation
Josh McDowell

Word Publishing - £8.99
| So what is it about? | Josh McDowell looks
at today's generation of young people. Sometimes called Generation
X or Millenials but he labels them the Disconnected Generation. Josh looks at how this generation have become disconnected, ways we might connect with them, exploring their world and looking at how faith connects with this generation. |
| Who is it for? | This book will be of
interest to those who work with young people or who are parents of young
people. It's story based and looks at both worker and parent relationships. |
| Does it do what it says on the label? | This book is strongly American, it was written in the aftermath of the Comumbine school shooting in 1999. Having said this it is an easy read and does have some important points which we think apply in the UK as well as the USA. |
| Enjoy or endure? | The personal stories in this give a real sense of connection with the author. It's not heavy theology, it's 'pop theology' with statistics and analysis that should make anyone in contact with young people think. |
| Any other comments? | Josh McDowell sounds
at times as though he is rather anti-culture and from reading this it
might be possible to conclude that as Christians we should hide from
culture, withdraw into our own separate culture. I'm not sure
this is what Josh is saying, I suspect he's not but it is worth thing
this issue through as you read this. Are we 'in' the world but not 'of' it (John 17 v 13-18) or completely outside? If we are completely outside culture can we really be 'salt' and 'light' (Matthew 5 v 13-16) |
